Mappa Mundi

A map of meaning for a world in transition

This channel explores how worldviews shape individuals, societies and civilizations, and what happens when those worldviews reach their limits. It draws on philosophy, science, history, myth and ecology to examine the foundations of modern thought, with critical rigour and open curiosity.

It grows out of a lifelong fascination with how all phenomena, from the particles of the material universe to the complexities of human consciousness, join together to form a coherent whole. Philosophy is where that fascination turns to the presuppositions we bring to our study of reality, and those are what the channel keeps returning to.

What the channel explores

How worldviews form us

How the frameworks we inherit shape individuals, societies and whole civilizations.

Where they reach their limits

What happens at the edges of a worldview, where the accepted picture stops explaining what we find.

Many fields, one question

Philosophy, science, history, myth and ecology, brought together to look at the foundations of modern thought.

Why I make it

I’m interested in the ultimate structure of the world, and especially of human nature and consciousness. I believe our conception of science should evolve along with scientific knowledge itself, so that science doesn’t harden into a method that limits all later discovery.

I believe in freedom from dogma and superstition, and in paying attention to the parts of reality that don’t fit neatly into accepted paradigms. The channel is where I follow that curiosity in public.
